to the Department of Recreation and Park Administration...

Thank you for your interest in the exciting and multi-faceted field of park, recreation and leisure services and our degree programs here at EKU. The 21st century brings many new opportunities and challenges for Park and Recreation professionals in providing for a better quality of life. Depending upon your interests, skills and ambitions, you could be working at a local park and recreation department; a state or national park; with a non-profit agency such as YMCA/YWCA, 4H, or Scouting program; in tourism or at a resort; in an outdoor recreation/education or camp program; or in therapeutic recreation serving individuals with specific health-related needs and disabilities.

The Department offers an accredited B.S. degree and a M.S. degree in Recreation and Park Administration. Students and faculty are engaged in classroom instruction, service learning projects, grant writing, and research. The faculty is committed and strongly believe in providing a combination of theory and experience to prepare and motivate students for successful employment in the field. The B.S. degree provides 15 credit hours of direct hands-on field experience. The senior practicum (REC 463) serves as an excellent transition from school to work and many students are hired directly out of their practicum.

A career in park, recreation and leisure services enables students to have an impact in their work, in their communities, on the environment, and in the lives of others.
