The Department of Recreation and Park Administration
at EKU
sponsors the annual Dr. James McChesney Memorial Golf Classic
to raise money for the Dr. James McChesney Scholarship Fund.
The Dr. James McChesney Scholarship is given to an upper division
or graduate student majoring in Recreation and Park Administration
with a GPA of 2.5 or above in the major. Other criteria are leadership
potential, work ethic, finanical need, and perceived success as a
professional.
Dr. McChesney served as the chair of the Department from its inception
in 1966 until his retirement in 1989. His tenure was characterized by
a commitment to teaching and training both undergraduate and graduate
students at EKU, as well as assisting the development of parks and
recreation in the Commonwealth. His accomplishments were many and
his contributions profound.
